Welcoming Summer with Sebamed Baby Sun Lotion

1 min read
On what seemed like a perfect sunny March Sunday morning, I witnessed the launch of "Sebamed Baby Sun Lotion". Marketed by USV in India, Sebamed is a leading German skin care brand. This brand achieved two unique feats that day. They launched their baby sun lotion in India, which is probably the first that I have come across in that category, and also set a record in the India Book of Records by bringing together children below the age of 6 years along with their moms to perform Yoga at the Radio Club, Colaba.

With ever increasing pollution and careless disposal of toxic waste our environment is getting damaged on a regular basis. Although several NGOs and National agencies work towards eliminating the threats to our environment, the greenhouse effect is progressively causing global warming depleting natural earth barriers and increasing our exposure to toxic ultraviolet radiation.
When I walk through a park on a sunny day, which I do a lot due to the “wanna-be-outdoor” nature of my boys, I find it hard to protect my kids from the stare of the sun. Sebameds Baby Sun Lotion is a welcome step in that direction and I commend the brand for innovating in that regard.
This sunscreen lotion, which has an SPF of over 25, seems exactly what I need. It is a highly effective UVA/UVB filter system combined with micropigments which prevent sunlight induced skin damage. Although UVB radiation causes sunburn, UVA radiation has been noted to cause skin cancers and photodermatitis. In addition to the dual UV radiation protection, this lotion contains Inulin, Lecithin and Bisabolol which helps maintain the intactness of skin, improving hydration and completely steering clear of dryness. Supplemented with botanical extracts, these contribute Vitamin E and Provitamin B5 which have regeneration and skin protecting properties thus helping in nourishing my baby’s skin. Several dermatological medical associations advise the use of sunscreen lotion to protect form the harmful effects of the sun. Some more interesting facts about Sebamed Baby Sun Lotion include:

  1. Sebamed is approved by European Cosmetic Association and is free from perfume and other irritants. SPF tested according to COLIPA.
  2. Water resistant and so best for those who love to swim.
  3. Available in SPF 20, 30, 50 and 50+
  4. UVA protection: 98 % UVA absorption (higher than Australian Standard)
  5. Free from alcohol, dyes, paraffin, parabens, PEG bonds and PABA esters, acrylamide making it safe for your child.

How To Use:

Like any other lotion, apply just 20 minutes before going into the sun. Massage the baby sun lotion gently and evenly on to the skin on all exposed areas. Apply generously for best results. So this summer enjoy the sun with SEBAMED and let your little ones go  outdoors and play throughout the day without the fear of sunburn. Join summer camps, go to the beach, go on vacations and play in the sun as you’ve got Sebamed on your side to help prevent sun burns, and other sun related skin damage..

General Do’s/Dont’s:

Equip your kids with the right clothes when being exposed to the sun. Take preventive measures.
Always use a hat when you can, even when using sunscreen.
Always apply a sunscreen lotion/cream to prevent the skin from being affected by the harsh rays of the sun.
Avoid the midday sun between 11 am and 3 pm.
Avoid contact with eyes.

Here is a small test to help you understand your skin and make the right decisions about its care. Answer these questions to find out where you fall on the pH spectrum.

1. How does your skin feel after cleansing?
a) Soft and smooth
b) Tight and dry
c) Still slightly oily or not thoroughly clean

2. How often do you moisturize your face?
a) At least morning and evening
b) Once a day
c) Never

3.Has your skin become sensitive to products you regularly use, including makeup and creams?
a) No, it feels normal, like always.
b) Once in a while
c) Yes. It seems like it reacts to everything I put on it lately.

4.How often does your skin have dry, flaky, rough patches?
a) Never
b) Sometimes
c) Usually

5. Do you notice that your skin looks duller and has more lines in the morning?
a) No
b) Yes usually.
c) It’s a very rare occurrence

6.Is your skin excessively oily and prone to breakouts (whereas it wasn’t in the past)?
a) No
b) Occasionally
c) Yes

7.Does your skin often look red and feel irritated?
a) No
b)It stings only after applying products.
c) Yes

8. Does your skin look plump, moist, and dewy?
a) Almost always
b) Rarely
c) It’s plump, but more greasy than dewy

If you answered mostly b’s, your skin’s pH is. . .
Too high. Your chronic dryness and wrinkling likely mean your acid mantle is being dismantled—you’re too alkaline, baby. With its protective lipids removed, your skin is falling prey to bacteria, UV rays, and harsh ingredients. Take a close look at how (and how often) you’re cleansing, scrubbing, and hydrating. You need to make sure that your skin can ward off the damaging factors that are making it look older than it should.

If you answered mostly a’s, your skin’s pH is. . .
Just right! Your skin (and its pH) live in a shiny, happy place not inhabited by premature aging and wrinkles. Having skin this good isn’t an accident, so kudos to you for gold-star moisturizing and exfoliating, and using the right products. Stay on the same course and you’ll continue to glow.

If you answered mostly c’s, your skin’s pH is. . .
Too low. Your regular oiliness, breakouts, and sensitivity point to acid overload. Chances are, you’re OD’ing on the peeling products (think acids) in an effort to sop up excess grease. And while this type of exfoliation can make for a healthy complexion, your skin is suffering from too much of a good thing. Your mission: Use products in moderation instead of abusing them (and your skin).

Thank you Sebamed India  for the invite. It certainly was a day of fun, fitness and more with my little ones. It also felt good to be part in creating a record in the “India Book of Records”.
